I saw a picture 5 days ago online that was part of a story how the sexist Ukranian army was making female soldiers march in high heels. MUCH outcry over it also, with the world denouncing the barbaric practices.
BUT, are we REALLY seeing what we are told we’re seeing? These are cadets practicing for a parade supposedly. HOWEVER… The picture immediately raised several questions for me.
First, why are they all wearing numbers like they’re entering a marathon? Hardly military.
There are also several other inconsistencies with their “uniforms”:
Their stockings are all different. No Uniformity.
Their T Shirts are different colors and worn differently also, with sleeves folded or rolled at the wearer’s whim.
There’s no rank or any other military insignia anywhere on the uniforms
Their pants are too tight, with many of the girls looking like they’re wearing stretch pants almost. Military combat uniforms are loose to allow freedom of movement.
Hats are pulled down with their bills creased to varying degrees as well.
There’s a variance in posture, head position and hair styles that don’t speak to being real military cadets as well.
For comparison, I did A LITTLE scouting around the internet and quickly found several pictures to fact check. Something it SEEMS that the Examiner and MSN should have done:
These are actual Ukrainian soldiers (as opposed to alleged cadets). Note that everything I pointed out as wrong in the above picture is different here.
Above is a picture of women wearing a Ukrainian army dress uniform.
And for comparison, there’s the men’s uniforms above and the women’s’ full combat uniforms below:
I’d bet that first picture that the Examiner ran with was a fake created by Russia, and wasn’t even fact checked. Russia has wanted The Ukraine back under it’s thumb for a long time, and propaganda is a favorite tactic. If they can make Ukraine’s government look evil, less people will complain when Russia rolls in to take the rest of the country after already seizing part of it’s coastal area for naval bases.
That said, I do indeed smell a rat here, AND wonder where the fact checking and named sources are. I also wonder how we’re supposed to trust the media when things like this are regularly turning up as “factual” news.
Some of my longer term readers may remember my posts almost a year ago where I supplied stories from multiple news services about how the Wuhan Institute of Virology was reported to be an unsafe wreck, and almost certainly responsible for the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. The main post with those links was about media bias in general, but here are the links to the actual Wuhan stories:
My point in the earlier post was that the media in general was more interested in discrediting the Trump Administration than reporting the truth. Wuhan was called a hoax, the lab was (not) imaginary, and we were told it was all racism and xenophobia.
Well, guess what? NOW, we have the media reporting the news of the 2018 reported unsafe conditions at the Wuhan labs as if it’s a brand new story. EVERYBODY on the Right and Left is jumping on it. Even Fox, who banged the drum pretty hard on the story while trying to defend Trump, is treating it like something new:
BTW, when every outlet from MSNBC to Fox is pushing the exact same angle, watch out! It means the entrenched swamp on both sides is all working together with the same goal. Conflict is coming.
This is NOT about Trump. The leadership (at the very least) of both sides should have known via national security briefings. Instead of doing anything before we had a global pandemic, they first chose to ignore it and then play political gamesmanship after all hell broke loose.
Was the media asking tough questions and getting to the bottom of anything? NO!
All the media did was help the bureaucracy point fingers at the other side and treat the public as idiots to be demagogued and lead around by the nose like idiots.
We the people need to start demanding better of our media; less bias and commentary, more hard facts and objective reporting. The media as it stands now is a biased, conflict driven joke. I pick usually on the “mainstream” media (as if Fox isn’t mainstream with it’s massive viewer base), but this time I’ll use an example from Fox.
THAT a headline to a story at their website.
Pig In A Blanket… REALLY. Is THAT “fair and balanced”? It’s nothing resembling proper journalism. It’s sensationalist, inflammatory red meat for the base, WWE level “color commentary“, and if Cuomo wasn’t such a creep, it’d be outright libel.
Is it REALLY so hard to just report the facts and allegations against him as they stand and give the public credit for the ability to draw it’s own conclusions on IF or how big a scumbag Cuomo is? Both sides do this all the time though, and Fox just spent FOUR YEARS bitching about how the rest of the media did to Trump EXACTLY what they’re doing here. Hypocrisy on all sides.
And the thing that irks me the most about the Wuhan story is that I successfully ignored the news for months only to see that damned story plastered EVERYWHERE.
I really hope people are getting fed enough enough to actually say “ENOUGH”.
This is something we came across a couple days ago while on a trip to the store. We had heard nothing about it ahead of time either.
It’s very hard to make out, since I was on the wrong side of the street on the way back home (I was NOT the one driving, relax), BUT what you see here is part of a group of I’d estimate 100 or so people all politely protesting.
What makes it noteworthy is that about 60% of them had Trump 2020 signs, and the other 40% had Black Lives Matter signs, and they were all intermingling peacefully, and getting along fine. I had a great view of this display while we were driving the other direction, but didn’t have time to get my phone out for pics.
The lesson(s) here: People can and are getting along fine with one another.
Trump supporters do NOT want to see all Black people killed or in chains.
Black people do NOT want to kill all conservatives or whatever.
The ONLY people telling you otherwise are the ones profiting off of the human misery and drama from that false narrative; the media and various “leaders”.
This is small town Southern America too. The media spun stereotype is that the BLM crowd should have all been lynched and dragged behind pickup trucks. Yet here they are all coexisting and getting equal amounts of honks and waves.
MAYBE *gasp* they were even Trump supporters carrying BLM signs!
I posted a story here before about how the local and Nashville media tried to spin the last big BLM protest as a violent event. I also posted pictures of protesters and cops side by side showing how that was a lie:
Everybody got along fine, but the media lied and reported violent confrontations between the police and protesters that day.
Take this as a sign of hope on this All Hallow’s Eve. The world is not nearly as far gone as the talking heads and dividers who pretend to be leaders say it is.
The “other side” isn’t your enemy either, and probably is doesn’t think too much different than you in most cases. It’s the hatemongers and their handful of unthinking extremist followers on all sides that are setting everyone against each other.
Open your eyes, look around you. You’ll see plenty of scenes like the ones above if you’re truly paying attention. Reject the narrative you’re being fed also. It’s poison.
Time for something vaguely resembling social commentary, since I promised Laura V that I was going to do this post a week ago. It echoes something that’s been on my mind lately, particularly as my pain level drops and I gain fresh perspective on life.
Laura did a post a week or so ago about the need to just set all the political and social drama aside and look for the good, for one’s own mental health. I have to say I completely agreed with it too.
For the longest time, I had the mindset that liberty required eternal vigilance. Turn your back, and corruption and evil will run amok. I scoffed at the new agers who just advocated completely shutting out any sort of news because it’s all so toxic. Stick your head in the sand, and let other clean up the mess.
Anymore, I’m starting to think there’s some wisdom there though.
Why? Look at the messages we get from every source nowadays. “They” are out to get us. We need to oppose THEM, by any means necessary if it gets much worse, etc… And that’s just mainstream pundits on both sides. God help you if you’re spending all your time on Twitter and Facebook, you’ll hear even worse.
Everything anymore is gloom and doom, designed to promote utter hatred, contempt and mental anguish. Very little out there is designed to bring people together. It poisons the soul and erodes mental well being.
I’m beginning to think civilized society is losing the bigger war by focusing on these fights also.
I’ve done a few posts on “being the light” and “being an example“… MAYBE those are the bigger keys to a real victory for humanity. Be the kind of people we want others to be. Let the example we set inspire that change in others.
Yes, it’s work trying to emulate Dr King, Ghandi, Jesus, etc… Hate is easy also, but it’s also destructive to it’s wielder and everyone around them.
I’d say the answer isn’t to turn a blind eye like empty headed new agers only concerned with “good vibes”. None of the three people above turned a blind eye. But they did work for peaceful solutions, understanding others and elevating humanity.
Keep news to a sane level. You can doom surf yourself into a nervous breakdown. Stay detached from stories and remember they’re trying to manipulate you. Work towards good without getting consumed by injustice. Hate can’t be fought with hate, it only grows it.
Remember the other side of any issue are human beings also.
As I mentioned in my last post, I dropped the ball on defining some of the terms in me What the Elites Fear post. I don’t blame Jyvur Entropy (free blog plug removed for trolling) there. Terms like “Elites” are kicked around by everyone from hard core marxists to conspiracy theorists to libertarians. Everyone has a different definition also; dictionary be damned.
For my new readers, I’m a moderate who leans conservative. What that means in plain English, is that I see the flaws in the extremes of both sides of the political debate. I believe strongly in honesty also. If I see a good idea come from anybody, doesn’t matter if it’s Trump or Pelosi, I’ll give them credit while still holding them accountable for their bad ideas.
Being a free thinker, I’m an acquired taste. People that dogmatically follow any given ideology have a hard time following me and sometimes say I sound like two different people. Such is life.
All of that MAY be somewhat irrelevant anyway. I’m not sure I’m going to continue with social issue posts. I’ve found them a big distraction from my creative writing, and a mood killer as well.
Regardless of if I continue, I do need to go back and define a few terms for readers.
Let’s start with the dreaded “elites”.
For starters, as I was using it yesterday (and in other posts), I was referring to the super rich who have more money than God, and a god complex about what they think that entitles them to do. George Soros is a great example. So are Mark Zuckerburg and a handful of other tech billionaires. Just examples though, NOT the entire list. These people use their money to screw with people’s lives and freedoms, try to indoctrinate others to their ideologies, and generally don’t care who they run over to increase their wealth and power.
There are others as well… Top level executives that sit on the boards of interlocking corporate directorships and are nameless to the vast majority of people. Interlocking corporate directorships are when board members of one company sit on the board of one or more other companies as well.
One great example of how this can create a conflict of interest is when Brand X does something horrible, and Media Company A white washes the whole situation because Mister Smith is on the boards of both corporations. Or maybe “Retail Company A” won’t carry some new start-up’s product because Manufacturer X sees it as a threat to their market share and there are people who sit on both companies’ boards of directors. Note investopedia says interlocking directorships are a COMMON practice too.
Capitalism… PURE capitalism, is a wonderful thing. It’s created more millionaires and lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system out there. How these people make their money is nothing close to Adam Smith’s idea of capitalism though.
OK, I got off track there BUT I think it’s worth leaving the two paragraphs intact to show you don’t have to be Mark Zuckerburg to screw with the populace. It also shows that one can be a good American and capitalist, and strongly disagree with the way mega-corporations do business.
Then we have the politicians.
Do I really need much explanation here? They’re ALL whores for sale to the highest bidder, even if they come in with genuine good intentions. That’s why I believe in term limits all the way down to city dogcatcher. Get people out before they become corrupted. They spend more time fund raising and campaigning than they do legislating. Ultimately it always becomes about the perks.
Great movie, BTW… If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend it. The scene pretty much shows what independent thinkers already know; the issues are a smoke screen that enable politicians to keep the base fired up and at each others’ throats while they collect money and laugh behind our backs.
This goes beyond trainwreck to “Death Star remnants crashing into Endor”.
First there’s the reality that many journalists are biased. Factor in the power and influence of their corporate overlords and those interlocking directorates, and you’ve got a real mess. My previous rants against the media have been because I can’t find a single story online, be it Fox, MSNBC or NPR without thinking “Where’s the supporting evidence?”, “That’s a blatant lie”, “That’s completely misrepresenting what was said”, or “You’re playing on emotion and not reporting facts”.
Combine that with networks carrying commentary shows disguised as news like Rachel Maddow or Hannity and the waters really get muddy. Call them on something and the reply is almost always the same too; you’re a racist or a marxist.
The Whole Illuminati / N.W.O. Conspiracy Theory
Sadly if you’re a free thinker, this is often the defense used by the corrupt and their (usually) well meaning supporters; you’re a conspiracy nut.
To a large degree, I think the whole Illuminati thing is nonsense. Note I said “to a large degree” however. Just because the vast majority of the stuff on the topic out there is completely insane doesn’t mean it’s all false. Look at the Georgia Guidestones:
Somebody spent a TON of money to erect a monument that spells out the New World Order philosophy in plain English, and permanently buy the land owner’s silence on who it was. There’s remarks from Kissinger, Soros, and several other politicians and super rich spouting similar ideas too.
Many of the same ideas show up in the extreme views on climate change and other social issues as well, including a need to drastically reduce the Earth’s population (AKA Genocide).
So yes, there’s a LITTLE truth there. I don’t believe they’re this all power shadow syndicate running the world, but they wish they could be. The best way to hide what they’re doing is to bury it under a pile of seemingly related crap so deep that no sane person would give it any credit either.
Rubio, who was appointed acting Intelligence Committee chairman earlier this month, tweeted Saturday he was seeing “VERY heavy social media activity on #protests & counter reactions from social mediaaccounts linked to at least 3 foreign adversaries.”
Rubio may have been basing some of his information on analysis from Graphika, a company that helped the committee with its report on Russia’s social media influence during the 2016 elections. Graphika CEO John Kelly sent information to Senate Intelligence Committee leadership on Saturday, which was obtained by CNN.
“Yes, we are seeing very active engagement with the issue from clusters of social accounts in the social media influence networks of Russia, Iran, and China,” Kelly said. “Our team is actively monitoring the situation now, including growing activity around the ‘Boogaloo’ movement, which is pushing for a ‘Second American Civil War.'”
CNN has reached out to Graphika for comment about what is behind their analysis.
Everything is Russia nowadays, from both sides. No doubt Russia, China and Iran are trying to have SOME influence also.
Isn’t it about damned time the government was held accountable and cleaned up it’s act instead of continuing to turn the public against each other? What the hell ever happened to “The buck stops here?” and any form of accountability?
Actually the answer there is simple. The public cares more about holding onto it’s petty fears and hates based on lies and manipulation. American Idol and Survivor became more important than the power brokers ruining society.
Finally having more time to turn my attention back to current events, I’ve become more and more disgusted as I see a constant stream of lies and half truths from the media. Everything from stupid shit there’s no reason to even spin, to lies on major news events.
Let’s lead into this rant with something light: The Wall Street Journal ran a piece saying that truck drivers are feeling isolated with no places to stop to eat, use the restroom, shower, etc… There were some other issues raised that were likely very legitimate, such as falling prices paid by shippers, etc…
I just got done driving the length of California, through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee though. Damned near coast to coast. I stopped frequently also due to the RV’s carbon monoxide leak and horrific gas mileage. We stopped at truck stops almost exclusively due to better services too. EVERY truck stop had an open restaurant, restrooms and showers. We even used the showers at one facility in Arkansas. There’s NO grey area here. The story is BLATANTLY lying about this situation. The only question is WHY? Just for ratings? In hopes of drumming up more fear about COVID-19?
On a more serious note, I saw another WSJ story that implied Attorney General Barr was dropping the ball on the George Floyd case as he had previously done on the Rodney King case. The only trouble here is that it was the Feds (AKA Barr) that got civil rights convictions on those dirty cops after local prosecutors had failed to get criminal convictions for “assault under color of authority”. As it is, the local and federal investigations and prosecutions in the Floyd case have barely even begun. How about we give justice a chance to start to work before we make STUPID judgments?
I had been operating under the misguided assumption that the WSJ was one of the few remaining unbiased, reputable media sources out there.
Then you have the Minneapolis mayor blaming “white supremacists” for all the damage and looting during protests. Why the hell is not ONE media source calling bullshit on this guy and challenging his city’s unwillingness to follow through on reforms after similar past incidents? Why is nobody doing an in-depth report on Minneapolis using it’s police force largely as a revenue collection tool, and focusing those efforts on the city’s poor of all races?
More importantly why doesn’t the media care about their spreading lies like this contributing to the violence and destruction? The modern media reminds me of the sick kid in school that always used to run around spreading lies to provoke fights and feuds between other students.
Even on the local front, we have the “news media” more intent on stirring up drama to create news instead of reporting on it. Two different stories from two different sources on the EXACT SAME event:
The Murfreesboro Post reported that the protesters gathering at the city square for George Floyd were all “Southern nationalists and white supremacists”, and peaceful counter-protesters would be gathering elsewhere at a park.
U.S.A Today, hardly a right leaning paper by any means, reported that the downtown protest was going to peaceful and FOR George Floyd.
Same story, who’s telling the truth? Better yet, how are we supposed to trust ANY of them when they lie this much? By the way, want to know what the actual truth was here?
There’s your “white supremacist” protestor shaking hands with cops. Damned funny looking Klan robes…
For the record… I FULLY support peaceful protests, and they are certainly called for in this situation. I also fully support stomping a mud hole in ANY protester that turns violent. I don’t care if they’re a white racist trying to stir up trouble, or a just plain punk or any race. The rest of the crowd should turn on them, NOT follow them.
If silence is complicity in the case of the initial crime, it is with the mob following the trouble makers as well.
Luckily things stayed largely peaceful here.
People of all races praying for peace and justice. There’s the truth.
The closest thing we got to a “Klan rally” downtown was a couple of peaceful protestors that showed up in support of law enforcement in general and against looting:
Note EXACTLY what the sign says also.
Rioting is NOT Protesting
Crime is not Justice
Not ALL Cops are Bad.
What the guy is protesting is half of downtown Nashville being burned and vandalized the night before, and Minneapolis practically in ruins. Do I think this is the time or spot to try to make those points? Not really. At the very least he should have had a sign directly and clearly advocating peaceful protest.
Nowhere does he say that George Floyd deserved what he got. I’d be all for a Pinata Party right there if he had. None the less the news had to put their biased spin on it. Here’s the blurb that accompanied that picture:
Hunter Culling of Murfreesboro holds up a sign in front of police officers duringdemonstrations in Murfreesboro Public Square in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Sunday, May 31, 2020 in reaction to the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died after being pinned down by a white Minneapolis police officer on Memorial Day. HELEN COMER / DNJ
In reaction to the death of George Floyd, NOT in reaction to the looting despite the sign saying so.
I’d ask if they were too ignorant to understand the difference, but they know. It’s a deliberate effort to divide people and create conflict. If the news truly cared about change and civil rights, they’d be promoting communication and unified peaceful effort.
After reporters had been stirring them up for hours, the crowd finally did start to get unruly near sundown too. Police ordered them to disperse and had to use tear gas to get some of them to do so. Afterwards a curfew was put into effect to prevent things from turning into what happened in Nashville.
I’m REALLY at the point of thinking we need some sort of regulation or oversight of the media. On the simplest level, such an idea SHOULD be utterly abhorrent. Yet reality is that civil liberties of all types are based on the concept that they will be used responsibly with regard to their impact on others. The oft cited “Freedom of Speech doesn’t give one the right to yell “FIRE” in a crowded theater” for example.
How we do that when we likely can’t trust any oversight group to be unbiased either, I have NO idea.
I used to think lawyers were the great evil in our society. Nowadays, I think it’s the press.
Time for another Solutions Saturday. If we’re ever going to get to a point where we act like a civilized society again, we HAVE to start approaching the media (and public officials) with a discerning eye. With that in mind, I want to dissect a recent NBC Article about conspiracy theorists and the coronavirus.
First, I’d like to take a moment to quickly clarify a couple of my last posts. I am NOT among those who believe that the coronavirus is fake. I’ve said all along I believe it’s real. I do have SOME question as to how dangerous it truly is. At this point I also strongly disagree with some of the draconian, fascist measures being taken by SOME government officials in the name of protecting people. I think at this point we CAN begin to carefully open things back up in responsible ways. I also disdain the censorship and ridicule being spread by the media and government.
With that said, let’s get to the article from NBC. First, a link to the story.
We’re led into the story with a sensationalist, yellow journalism style headline. We’re led to believe that conspiracy theorists are somehow disrupting or clogging Emergency Rooms at hospitals. The trouble is, if you read the story, there’s absolutely NOTHING about that happening. The headline is a complete LIE.
If you read the story carefully, what you’ll find is that the first portion of it actually details the stories of a couple of doctors trying to reason with conspiracy theorists on social media, presumably on their off time. If they’re social network debating at work, as paragraph four suggests, you have wonder why they are doing so instead of helping patients.
The Lead In Picture:
Here’s another game of deception. If you don’t look closely at the small print description beneath the photo (in the story), you would assume that the protest being pictured is in front of a HOSPITAL. That’s what the headline said, right? Well, the picture is actually taken in front of the Connecticut governor’s house.
The paragraphs that follow are designed to subtly give the reader the impression that it IS in front of a hopsital though. Not only that, but the sign in the picture saying “Fake Crisis” is also used by the story to tie anyone disagreeing with lockdowns to conspiracy theories.
How do I reach that conclusion? First hand experience with the media during the Atlanta Olympic Games. Note the sign says. “Fake CRISIS”, NOT fake disease. That person may very well feel that the disease is real, but not quite as dangerous as it’s made out to be. I can certainly argue that point statistically myself. They likely also simply want to return to work. At NO point does the story interview this person to find out what they believe or want. We’re simply left with the implied assertion that they’re a rabid conspiracy nut.
Note the flag on the car participating in the drive-by portion of the protest too. This was included in the shot to connect patriotism to deranged thinking also.
CONTINUING THE STORY…
We read how painful this social media interaction is for these doctors. At NO point does anybody bring up the the nearly thirty year old maxim for avoiding this kind of crap. “DON’T FEED THE TROLLS”! If you don’t want the drama, walk away! Nobody is forcing these poor abused doctors to get into pissing contests with these trolls.
THEN we suddenly make the leap to other doctors sharing “similar” experiences of treating patients with COVID-19. The story cites ONE specific case of an idiot ending up in the ER after drinking bleach. The article doesn’t even specifically say it was in an effort to prevent or treat COVID-19, nor does it quote the patient as saying that was the reason, just that he did it.
The story THEN points out that this happened just DAYS after President Trump suggested injecting disinfectants to kill the disease. The story completely fails to mention that Trump was being sarcastic and trolling the media.
THAT said, I will admit that was another classic Trump foot in mouth moment. He should have realized that:
We have to get our Trump bashing in the story somehow though, right? Speaking of which, the second picture is a perfect example of stereotyping Trump and anyone who supports him. As with the first picture, there was no attempt at objective journalism and asking the man pictured what his exact beliefs were, nor did they really show anyone else at the Reopen Oregon Rally.
The picture was about taking Trump supporters and people who want to return to work, and connecting them to conspiracy theories and deranged thinking. The media used to do the same thing with the TEA party also. Taxed Enough Already is what it stood for. All most members wanted was better accounting of government spending and reduction of waste.
Getting back to the story, the next paragraph goes:
“Folks delaying seeking care or, taking the most extreme case, somebody drinking bleach as a result of structural factors just underlines the fact that we have not protected the public from disinformation,” Maru said.
Yet there’s no specific cases mentioned, even in the case of the bleach drinker, where this DID happen. At best, it’s elementary school level sloppy writing. At worst, it’s complete BS. No doubt there are cases where this has happened, but the story doesn’t even come close to providing proof that it’s serious to the point of breaking ERs.
They don’t even let the doctor define “structural factors”. Note any time you see vague euphemisms like this, it’s because the speaker or author is trying to dance around exact wording to make a case that couldn’t otherwise be made. The NBC reporter DOES go on to define “structural factors” on their own as Social Media and YouTube.
The Remainder of the Story:
What follows is several more paragraphs highlighting some of the most outrageous conspiracy theories out there, rationalizing why people need to censored for the public good. We get precious little facts, just innuendo that anything disagreeing with the official line is bad. That includes emotional manipulation like this:
“It scares me more than anything that there are people who are basically controlled — and in the same way they feel they’re fighting against that control,” he said. “They go to YouTube, where they’re really being controlled, and they don’t realize it. That’s what’s scary.”
What you get from the remainder is a ton of rationalization for MORE censorship when social media and YouTube are already banning anything that even remotely disagrees with the WHO and it’s Chinese masters. The twitter video I had posted in a previous post that showed the WHO official hanging up on a reporter after being told that Taiwan was not China being a perfect example. It’s GONE now.
How was THAT any threat to anyone’s health at all? All it did was call attention to a corrupt bureaucrat whose loyalty laid more with China than his agency’s stated goals.
The Bill Gates conspiracy theory never explains why Gates & friends would patent an earlier version of the Coronavirus either. No, I don’t believe it was to make COVID-19. However, patenting a disease is sick first of all. Secondly, it blocks anybody else from researching it or engineering a cure or vaccine based on the disease’s genetic structure.
That’s a far cry from trying to kill off people with a new virus, but it is filthy greed and capitalism at it’s absolute worst.
Likewise, the Wuhan lab thing is quickly discounted as a wild hoax. Understandable right? China hasn’t lied to us about anything COVID-19, such as it not being able to affect anyone under 20, right? The lab may not be a weapons lab, but it’s a lab. If it doesn’t exist, as NBC claims, how do we explain these stories:
Those from The Washington Post, CNN and the Daily Beast. None of whom are friendly to Trump. The lab story is all a hoax though.
Ironically, the story ends with one of the doctors swearing off social media, after two separate yet completely unsubstantiated claims of organized harassment of doctors. What it does mention is that the doctor was greeted by New York City’s nightly banging of pots and pans and other noise making as a salute to health care workers as the interview was wrapping up. Some attack on doctors, huh?
What wasn’t said in the story? Aside from any real evidence for the claim in the headline…
That we have civil liberties in this country that are supposed to protect freedom of speech
That there are already multiple variations on fraud laws for people touting fake cures for anything.
That there’s any difference between people wanting to return to work and conspiracy theorists.
That just because the WHO and China calls something a lie does NOT mean it’s so.
That dissent and peaceful disagreement are SUPPOSED to be the hallmarks of a free society and healthy democracy
That conspiracy theories arise because people instinctively know when they’re being bullshitted by their so-called leaders.
Any sort of objective look at such a dissenting opinion.
Some small percentage of idiots will believe anything no matter how much you try to convince them otherwise or limit their access to information. Limiting that access only proves them right in their minds.
In short, it’s largely just an effort to discredit the alternative media, and tie conservatives to whackadoo ideas. Journalism is supposed to be reporting facts documented with supporting evidence, NOT emotion based manipulation.
So there you have it. Some of the manipulation is pretty subtle, like the messages NBC was trying to send with the two pictures included in the story. Some of it was as subtle as a freight train, like the story’s efforts to tie Trump to the conspiracy theorists.
Regardless there was nothing truly supporting the claim made in the headline. Just enough implied superficial connections to get somebody skimming the article to go blindly along with it.
If you really want to break free, you have to read in depth and analyze what’s both implied and outright said. Skimming is shutting down your brain and letting somebody else do the thinking for you. You’ll always be led around by the nose that way.
Yes, it’s already here. I saw it on local TV, and had to google it. The disease is called “Pediatric Multi Symptom Inflammatory Syndrome” or “Pediatric Multi Symptom Inflammatory Disease”
This one causes severe respiratory system inflammation, and has put a handful of kids in various cities across the country into their local hospitals. It’s definitely serious, but I can already tell by media coverage that they’re just looking for angles to exploit this thing. I’ve even seen several attempts to tie it to COVID-19. That despite reputable reporting saying that it more resembles Kawasaki Disease.
New York has the worst outbreak with 64 cases thus far across the entire state. There’s apparently 5 or so in Tennessee also. I don’t know about other states.
The yellow journalism here is the absolute worst. Only a few sources are even responsibly reporting that any link to COVID-19 is only **SUSPECTED** at this point.
Tie it to COVID-19 though, and NOT ONLY can we destroy freedom for the greater social good, we can do it FOR THE CHILDREN!!! The favorite manipulative rallying cry of proponents of massive government and massive taxes.
Keep an eye out for this one. It’s coming to a media outlet near you. Be wary of the disease, but be even more wary of a manipulative scheming government and media.
I was hoping to stay away from politics and the virus today, but… ABC just had to work my last good nerve.
HEADLINE: Health care workers fear losing their jobs during coronavirus pandemic.
We’re expected to believe that during a global pandemic of “epic proportions”, that small and rural hospitals are laying 43,000 people off in order to focus exclusively on emergency room treatment of patients, per the story.
“This may seem counterintuitive as we read daily of health care providers caring for COVID-19 patients stretched to capacity, but other types of health services have been shutting down like the rest of the service economy. This month’s losses were concentrated in ambulatory care settings, including physician offices, dental offices, and offices of other practitioners. As non-essential visits were cancelled, and states began ordering social distancing, such offices were closed. Even telemedicine visits, directly linking providers to patients, reduce the use of support staff.”
Here’s why I’m calling BS:
1) Rural areas, despite all the false stories of them struggling to cope, have seen minimal intrusion by the coronavirus. Everywhere you look, it’s URBAN areas with dense concentrations of people that are getting hit the hardest. New York City being the poster child there; high population, EXTREMELY crowded and it’s an international city. Placerville CA, by contrast (with a population of roughly 11,000)hasn’t seen a single case at all.
2) “Ambulatory Care” is walk-in type services. Nothing in that definition implies non-essential. Dentists are walk-in and while many are putting routine teeth cleaning visits on hold, they’re certainly still seeing people for impacted wisdom teeth, chipped or knocked out teeth, cavities, etc… Same is true with all other non-ER medical treatment. It’s only the completely routine and preventative stuff that’s being delayed.
3) Any place where the coronavirus IS an issue, personnel are getting shuffled around to other departments to help deal with it. Doing something to care for patients, (with the virus or otherwise), in some way. Even if it’s just running supplies and records back and forth.
4) It flies completely in face of the constant barrage of stories about there not being enough health care workers to deal with this “crisis”.
5) Why is this supposedly only happening in small and rural hospitals, not urban ones? Again, this sounds simply like bias against the deplorable, smelly Walmart shoppers who vote conservative.
You just don’t furlough health care workers in the middle of a pandemic UNLESS they’re in a completely non-helpful role, such as the gift shop AND / OR they are NOT willing to come in and help for fear of the virus. That IS happening with a few health care workers too. One of my fellow bloggies here was forced to make that decision and opted to stay home. I can’t judge her either because I don’t have a small child to think about as a factor to such a decision. She does.
WHAT’S NOT SAID IN THE STORY:
Even if we assume this story IS true at all, let’s consider a couple of key facts that were left out. Can’t put in important details if you’re trying to create blind panic for ratings, right?
1) What jobs these people have. I’d seriously bet that none of the furloughed people are actually doctors, or nurses. Hell, even janitors are needed to clean and sterilize areas.
2) How many of these “lost jobs” are people that were just too afraid to come to work thanks to the media-created hysteria. There’s a HUGE difference between that and a hospital saying “we just don’t need you now”. As a side note, I’d imagine a few of them are even normal retirements.
3) That, per the CDC, there are a total of 18,000,000 (18 million) health care workers in the United States. Now, for those who aren’t willing to do the math themselves, that means that the 43,000 “lost” jobs, if they’re real at all, amount to .24% (a hair less than one quarter of one percent OR 1 in 400) of the total heath care workforce.
Is ANYBODY out there starting to see just how far the Media will go to exploit a crisis and outright hurt people for the sake of ratings?
