Another Lesson in Why I Hate the Media

Some of my longer term readers may remember my posts almost a year ago where I supplied stories from multiple news services about how the Wuhan Institute of Virology was reported to be an unsafe wreck, and almost certainly responsible for the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. The main post with those links was about media bias in general, but here are the links to the actual Wuhan stories:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/04/14/state-department-cables-warned-safety-issues-wuhan-lab-studying-bat-coronaviruses/

https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/06/asia/coronavirus-china-wuhan-lab-origins-explainer-intl-hnk/index.html

https://www.thedailybeast.com/leaked-cable-shows-us-officials-flagged-safety-issues-at-wuhan-lab-years-ago

My point in the earlier post was that the media in general was more interested in discrediting the Trump Administration than reporting the truth. Wuhan was called a hoax, the lab was (not) imaginary, and we were told it was all racism and xenophobia.

Well, guess what? NOW, we have the media reporting the news of the 2018 reported unsafe conditions at the Wuhan labs as if it’s a brand new story. EVERYBODY on the Right and Left is jumping on it. Even Fox, who banged the drum pretty hard on the story while trying to defend Trump, is treating it like something new:

https://www.foxnews.com/world/top-state-official-coronavirus-bioweapon-accident

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/03/08/josh-rogin-chaos-under-heaven-wuhan-lab-book-excerpt-474322?utm_source=pocket-newtab

BTW, when every outlet from MSNBC to Fox is pushing the exact same angle, watch out! It means the entrenched swamp on both sides is all working together with the same goal. Conflict is coming.

This is NOT about Trump. The leadership (at the very least) of both sides should have known via national security briefings. Instead of doing anything before we had a global pandemic, they first chose to ignore it and then play political gamesmanship after all hell broke loose.

Was the media asking tough questions and getting to the bottom of anything? NO!

All the media did was help the bureaucracy point fingers at the other side and treat the public as idiots to be demagogued and lead around by the nose like idiots.

We the people need to start demanding better of our media; less bias and commentary, more hard facts and objective reporting. The media as it stands now is a biased, conflict driven joke. I pick usually on the “mainstream” media (as if Fox isn’t mainstream with it’s massive viewer base), but this time I’ll use an example from Fox.

THAT a headline to a story at their website.

Pig In A Blanket… REALLY. Is THAT “fair and balanced”? It’s nothing resembling proper journalism. It’s sensationalist, inflammatory red meat for the base, WWE level “color commentary“, and if Cuomo wasn’t such a creep, it’d be outright libel.

Is it REALLY so hard to just report the facts and allegations against him as they stand and give the public credit for the ability to draw it’s own conclusions on IF or how big a scumbag Cuomo is? Both sides do this all the time though, and Fox just spent FOUR YEARS bitching about how the rest of the media did to Trump EXACTLY what they’re doing here. Hypocrisy on all sides.

And the thing that irks me the most about the Wuhan story is that I successfully ignored the news for months only to see that damned story plastered EVERYWHERE.

I really hope people are getting fed enough enough to actually say “ENOUGH”.

RANT: Anti-Police Bias

One of the blogs I *USED TO* follow made the following statement in a recent post, and REALLY REALLY REALLY pissed me the fuck off:

“With the last year highlighting the ruthless nature in which the United States’ police officers have been shooting civilians first and asking questions later, I find this an interesting direction to take the story in and wonder if it’s a direct reference to the real world’s goings on, or just an innocent coincidence”

Before I go too much further, it was comparing a situation in comic books to real life. There was no innocent coincidence about the inclusion of killer cops in the story. Comic Books have become insanely distorted lenses of FAR Left propaganda. Turning Steve Rogers into a Nazi sleeper agent was another perfect example. Can’t have somebody with blond hair and blue eyes who represents the best America and it’s value represent.

The ONLY reason they turned the story around is that fans were ready to march on Marvel and Disney with torches, tar and pitchforks.

ANYWAY… My posted reply to that anti-police IDIOCY went like this:

Maybe before you make such inflammatory, completely unsupportable statements, you should actually do in-depth research on a subject before injecting Far Leftist CRAP into what would have been a good review.

I’ve made multiple posts in my blog supporting good cops and decrying the occasional bad ones like those involved in the George Floyd incident. One of my posts was an account of what REALLY happened in the Stephon Clark shooting and how the media completely lied about the situation.

How many killings by police have you heard about in the last year? Have you heard that a police officer is killed every 56 hours (2 1/2 days) in the US, and that there have been 3 officers killed already in 2021?? How about that in 2018 (the last year stats are available this far) there were 58,886 assaults against police officers, resulting in 18,005 injuries.

My dad was a lifelong cop. Cops are put in life and death situations every day never knowing if somebody is going to attack them or suddenly pull a gun or knife on them. Most shootings are the result of belligerent suspects fighting police or looking like they’re pulling a weapon when they’re ordered to keep their hands where they can be seen. It’s a shitty life and death call that has to be made in a split second and it often determines if the officer(s) get to live to go home and see their family that night, or end up on a memorial wall somewhere.

Picture from New York Daily News

Sometimes, the cop is just plain wrong (ie George Floyd – who was NOT “ruthlessly gunned down” BTW), and they deserve to be severely punished. I’ll continue to denounce bad cops just as loudly as my dad did. THIS kind of ignorant, hateful commentary COMPLETELY disgusts me however.

You lost a follower. I hope you lost more than one.

I could have ranted longer but I waited a few hours before replying to that post

I blame the media as much as the blogger. They’re a fountain of misinformation and deliberately try to inflame situations in hopes of creating even more news. Still, the blogger should know better. Even in England, which I keep hear is so superior to the U.S., a police officer is assaulted once every four minutes.

The reality is that more often than not, an increasingly ignorant, narcissistic public who thinks it only has to follow the law when it suits them is just as much responsible for these situations as poor police training and hiring screening.

Some day, hopefully SOON, we have to get back to the idea that there’s a right way and a wrong way to do things. Attacking police officers or screaming in their face like the twit at the top of this post is NOT the handle a situation. It happens all the time though, followed by incredulous, indignant news stories that the person was being charged after committing assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer.

Oh, and as for the ASININE idea to defund the police, especially in poor neighborhoods… If you want to see where THAT will lead, just watch the movie “The Purge”. When I left Sacramento, it was half a step above that due to the same mentality and philosophy.

The main difference being if you defended yourself YOU were going to jail, no matter how big the threat was.

This Moderate’s View of the Election and Beyond

My last political post here. As promised last time, politics will be banished to another blog soon. This will be a long one too. I’m going out with a bang. I challenge everyone to read it all the way through.

The Election Results:

Yes, the leftists and the people who never questioned the constant attacks disguised as news are happy. I’m not. It’s not that I like Trump. He’s an insecure narcissist. His lack of communication skills have made even the best ideas sound horrible. We MAY very well be better off without him.

What greatly disturbs me however is the twisted election results. Trump had a nearly 20% lead (18.9% if I recall correctly) in Pennsylvania for days, and then it just suddenly evaporates? The same thing happened on smaller scales in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Georgia, Nevada and Arizona.

This is different than Hillary’s loss four years ago also. At least she kept gaining votes as the counting continued. Trump pretty much stopped gaining any votes after the polls closed. Anybody care to tell me how it’s possible that Biden got over 90% of the remaining ballots when he was projected to lose all those states?

Yes, I know… It’s all a conspiracy theory. Tell that to the people of Maricopa County who say their votes were blocked:

President Donald Trump supporters rally, Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, outside the Maricopa County Recorders Office in Phoenix. (AP Photo/Matt York)

Does THAT look like the county that flipped Arizona for Biden? We’re supposed to believe it was.

Votes not being counted DOES happen too. My other half and I had a poll worker in Sacramento refuse to take our absentee ballots in the 2016 election (you have the option to drop the envelope at a polling station instead of mailing it). Not only that, the dropped off ballots were being tossed into open cardboard boxes instead of locked, sealed ballot bags.

Bottom line here; the allegations of fraud SHOULD concern everyone. It was investigated thoroughly in 2016 with the only evidence after years of looking being that Russia trolled everybody via fake accounts on social media. If there’s nothing to hide, the Left should welcome a thorough and transparent investigation like they demanded in 2016.

Fair and honest elections should be everyone’s priority.

Biden’s Claim of a “Mandate”

Yes, he’s already made multiple statements in between saying he wants to bring everybody together, that he has a “Mandate” to proceed with all the Far Left plans that he and Harris campaigned on. Here’s the reality of Biden’s “historic” win:

Election map from Fox News on November 4th.

That’s a county by county map of who voted Biden and who voted Trump. Biden’s “Blue Wall” looks an awful lot like a sea of red to me. Even California has several counties that went Red.

Most of the country realizes his proposed policies will turn the country into a shithole like California with high taxes, no jobs, skyrocketing crime, people having no voice, and higher prices on everything.

To consider his win a mandate is the kind of hubris Trump is accused of (but is really present in all politicians).

Biden’s Past:

This bothers me also. Not just the forcing his completely unqualified drug addict son Hunter onto the board of directors of a Ukrainian energy company while he was Vice President AND in charge of US foreign policy and aid to Ukraine. Not just his withholding foreign aid to Ukraine to get the prosecutor looking into that company fired…

There’s also his crazy gaffs like how Obama “has a big stick, and knows how to use it, believe me, I know!”

How about the fact that Biden was also behind the 1993 crime bill that clogged our prisons, and he called black men “predators”? At least he didn’t call them “super predators” like Hillary. I’m very pro law and order, but this law was overkill.

How about the fact that Biden was behind and pushed HARD for the failed 2005 attempt to reform bankruptcy laws? That would have made it all but impossible for Americans to declare a chapter 7 bankruptcy, and made a chapter 13 a financial prison sentence? He was SOLIDLY in the pocket of mega-banks and credit card companies, but this is the guy we’re supposed to believe will look out for the little guy?

The man couldn’t even keep his word to his dying son to NOT run for President.

Maybe he will be the uniter he’s claiming he wants to be. Time will tell. I had the same hopes for Obama though, and all I got was eight years of “White folks’ greed runs a world in need”.

Media Bias:

Another major concern. A free society depends on a vigilant and honest media. We don’t have one. I’ve cataloged case after case here. Trump’s saying that he realizes “the vast majority of Latinos are honest, hard working people who just want opportunity, but that a few bad hombres do come across the border with them” being turned into him calling all Latinos criminals being a prime example. I heard the speech live, I know firsthand how the media took the remark out of context and changed it.

I’ve repeatedly challenged people to show me ONE SINGLE INSTANCE where the mainstream or leftist media showed ANYTHING Trump did in a positive light. MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc… Even so much as a picture of Trump with a story that did NOT make him look like an ogre.

Biden has a campaign rally, it’s a great thing. Trump has a campaign rally, he’s spreading hate and coronavirus. Again, I’m not the guy’s biggest fan by any means. BUT I was a victim of alot of bullying in my day, and I HATE what I’ve seen over the last 5 years from the media; a unified effort of misrepresentation and bullying. Joseph Goebbels was right; a lie repeated often enough has become truth. People HATE Trump because he’s arrogant and the media have told them to.

60 Minutes, the same folks who rigged their investigation of the Ford Pinto with a lit rag in the gasoline fill pipe, and whose unbiased lead reporter “got a thrill up his leg” when Obama was elected, is the latest example. They ran a story tonight covering Pennsylvania’s vote count from election day on, to disprove Trump’s claims of voter fraud.

So how did they know that Pennsylvania would even be an issue? Trump was winning there handily until the 6th. Election night, he crowed about how he had a tremendous lead there. BUT 60 Minutes was there ON ELECTION NIGHT, covering his charges of voter fraud that didn’t happen until days later?

The only major counterpoint to all this is Fox News, which is just as blindly biased in the other direction. Net result; this country is SCREWED.

BTW: One last one from the not that distant past: Anybody remember that Mitt Romney during his presidential run said Russia was our greatest foreign threat, OR that Biden and Obama along with the media mocked him mercilessly for it? “The 80s called; they want their foreign policy back”. Funny how there was no apology to Romney during the 4 years we heard nothing but Russia Russia Russia.

The Real Nazis:

This is the part that concerns me more than anything the leadership or media has done. They can’t accomplish anything without a willfully ignorant public.

Ever since the start of the Obama administration, all I’ve heard out of the FAR Left is name calling, charges of racism, sexism, homophobia, hate, and on and on.

Conservatives and moderates who don’t tow the far left line are censored on social media, told we have no right to an opinion, mocked, harassed, and even physically assaulted. Antifa and the rest of the Far Left are using the exact same tactics the Nazis and their brown shirts used to silence opposition. Oh and Mussolini’s fascists when they were on the rise to power… Not to mention Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin and Lenin.

Great company some of you are keeping, and others of you are supporting with your silence simply because your hate of Trump, and what you THINK he stands for, is more important than how your fellow man is treated.

I’ve put up with being called a homicidal maniac, and a supporter of school shootings because I own a gun. News flash; 120 million Americans own guns; over 1/3 of the population. If we were all homicidal maniacs, everyone in the country would be dead.

I’ve been told I’m racist just because I’m White. Labeling somebody as something because of their race is the very definition of racism.

I could go on and on here until this blog post looked like some sort of manifesto. The reality is simply this; most of us moderates, and conservatives too, want everyone to have an even break. We’re tired of being vilified, threatened and even physically attacked though. So, NO we do NOT trust Biden to govern fairly given his past. We remember the Obama economy also.

Mostly, we just don’t trust the hypocrisy of preaching unity, enlightenment and inclusiveness when anyone who doesn’t tow the party line gets treated like a Jew in Nazi Germany.

I realize that most liberals are more moderate than what I’ve described above. HOWEVER, you’ve stood silently by while the extremes of your party have used those tactics, OR even applauded because you just hated Trump and anybody who stood even partially behind him by simple association.

You all want national unity and support for Biden? You’re going to have to put the brakes on the hate and get the loony elements of your party under control. Until I see that, and Biden acting like a real leader who needs to unify instead of declare mandates…

The bottom part says it all. Good for the goose, good for the gander. Just switch the picture to Biden

Fact Checking in the Current Reality

Fact checking is getting increasingly difficult in today’s society. The ends justify any means seems to be the rallying cry of people connected with any and every cause out there. Politicians, media, special interest groups… They all play hard and loose with the truth. Even fact checking organizations like Snopes have been caught lying multiple times to suit various agendas.

So what’s the average person to do? Here are a few answers:

Question EVERYTHING:

I’m talking… writing about maintaining an open mind and healthy skepticism of anything you hear. It doesn’t matter if you agree with it in principle or strongly oppose it.

Extreme? Every DAY we generate 2.5 Quintilian Bytes of new data. 90% of the information in the world has been generated in the last 2 years. That’s astounding if you stop and think about how much science and philosophy existed before that. Let’s break it down to the amount of data per minute:

graph courtesy of Domo.com

Are you getting the point? There’s a HUGE amount of new data being produced!

NOW, think about it logically and ask yourself; “How much of this is just complete, unsubstantiated crap put together by somebody with an axe to grind?” Is there REALLY that much new being discovered, or are people just rehashing the old AND in many cases, spinning it worse than a merry go round?

If science was advancing THAT fast, we’d have cured global warming and all disease, developed interstellar travel, teleportation and flying cars. We might have even found the mythical cure for stupidity, LOL.

So yes, the vast majority of what you see “new” any given day is going to be fluff or garbage. That is why you MUST question everything.

If There’s No Supporting Evidence, Treat it as Garbage:

Darn near every site from mainstream news to conspiracy sites like Prison Planet LOVE to make claims and “cite facts” with absolutely no physical evidence or credible first hand witnesses to back them up. The Kennedy assassination conspiracy is a great example here. Everybody knows this, everybody knows that… Where’s the proof to back up ANY of the 20 different theories out there? It’s all he said she said.

What IS Proof? Primary Sources:

Primary sources are something anyone who has gone to college has drilled into them. A primary source is a FIRST HAND witness’s or expert’s testimony, OR original documents relating to the specific issue. A history book about the Gettysburg Address is not a primary source (unless written by somebody who was there for it). A copy of the actual speech is.

In short, don’t believe some Coast to Coast AM guest saying Kennedy was killed over wanting to reveal UFOs unless he’s got government documents or Kennedy’s journals saying as much.

Bias and Half Truths:

The most common way to manipulate people is a half truth. All good lies are wrapped around a touch of the truth. It makes them more believable. Using a non-political example; “He ran the truck straight through that crowd without slowing down” sounds much different if “the brakes had failed” was a part of the hypothetical news story.

The news and other groups will play EXACTLY this kind of game with the truth though, just for the sake of ratings and sensationalism, or to push some agenda.

Bias is HUGE problem with half truths, even with primary sources. Facts are overlooked, ignored or outright hidden if it doesn’t suit an agenda. Health care is a great example. The US has the best health care in the world. True, but how good is it if you can’t afford it? Socialized medicine is the answer! Yeah if you want to wait five years and die before you get cancer treatment because you’re older and therefore less likely to benefit long term from treatment than a younger person.

Both sides play loose with the truth there and refuse to acknowledge the flaws of their own side.

The key here is to always ask “what is NOT being said?” and “what’s their agenda?”.

Timelines:

Here’s another important one. Most of the misinformation crowd does a BAD job checking facts on their own lies. Timelines being a prime example.

There’s an FDR quote from 1948 where he says some of his best friends are Communists. The only trouble there is that FDR died in 1945.

Likewise the infamous “Give me control of a nation’s money and I care not who makes its laws.” quote attributed to Rothschild didn’t surface until a century after his death. Doesn’t mean I trust him or any other big banker, BUT the quote is questionable.

Great way to manipulate people into N.W.O. conspiracies and antisemitism though.

Multiple Sources:

Sometimes, particularly with current events, it’s damned near impossible to get the whole truth from any source. What you have to do in those cases is research multiple sources with differing points of view. Doing so with an open mind can often help you piece the bigger picture together.

Worry About What’s Relevant:

This is a BIG key to keeping your sanity in the current information apocalypse. Conspiracy fans are BAD here also. They’ll go back hundreds of years looking for the vaguest hint of something to prove a connection in a web of conspiracy. A good recent example with a friend was investigating Walter Cronkite. She found out Cronkite was a big NWO guy.

That’s all good and well, but Cronkite is dead and buried, and nobody out there is regularly quoting him as some paragon of wisdom. With the POSSIBLE exception of journalism schools, the guy is irrelevant nowadays as THIS N.W.O. guy:

Focus instead on the current crop of mainstream journalists who never met a globalist big government idea that they didn’t like and would say ANYTHING to promote. Or if you want to worry about dead people, worry about somebody like John Lennon and his utopian socialist fairy tale ideals that are still being spouted by people.

Conclusion:

My honest opinion is that the majority of stuff floating around the internet today was put there either by people too lazy to research and thus find the flaws in their stories, OR outright deliberately put there as misinformation to deliberately lead people astray. It’s infinitely harder to get to the truth of the Kennedy assassination if there are a dozen theories out there with “experts” all swearing this is the only possible explanation.

If you REALLY want the truth nowadays, you have to be willing to work for it. The situation is only going to get worse with the rise of deep fakes also. Soon we’ll have pics and videos everywhere of politicians doing the KFTC. Don’t believe it.

Research and verify! And that’s Tuesday Trash the way it is.

BitChute; An Alternative to YouTube

This one will be a quickie. As anyone who’s paying attention knows, censorship has gone off the deep end lately. The government and big tech are vanishing anything that disagrees with their official narrative. YouTube and it’s Google masters are leading the way there, even more so than social media.

https://www.bitchute.com/

BitChute is fast becoming the popular alternative to YouTube. The mainstream media hates it of course:

BitChute is a video hosting service founded in 2017. It was created to allow video uploaders to avoid content rules enforced on other platforms, such as YouTube. The platform accommodates far-right individuals and conspiracy theorists; with the Southern Poverty Law Center saying the site hosts “hate-fueled material”. Wikipedia

To be fair, I did see conspiracy theory videos there. Nothing from nazis and similar types during my brief visit though. What I also saw were former YouTubers who were screwed out of payments during the policy change a year or two back, and more moderate videos questioning things like why even talking about food shortages and the mass killing of livestock that can’t make it to market is now being banned.

BitChute Food Shortage Rant Video

As with ANY information source, go in with a skeptical, discerning mind. They’re worth a look though.

Analyzing A News Story for Bias:

Time for another Solutions Saturday. If we’re ever going to get to a point where we act like a civilized society again, we HAVE to start approaching the media (and public officials) with a discerning eye. With that in mind, I want to dissect a recent NBC Article about conspiracy theorists and the coronavirus.

First, I’d like to take a moment to quickly clarify a couple of my last posts. I am NOT among those who believe that the coronavirus is fake. I’ve said all along I believe it’s real. I do have SOME question as to how dangerous it truly is. At this point I also strongly disagree with some of the draconian, fascist measures being taken by SOME government officials in the name of protecting people. I think at this point we CAN begin to carefully open things back up in responsible ways. I also disdain the censorship and ridicule being spread by the media and government.

With that said, let’s get to the article from NBC. First, a link to the story.

‘What are we doing this for?’: Doctors are fed up with conspiracies ravaging ERs – NBC May 6th, 2020

The Headline:

We’re led into the story with a sensationalist, yellow journalism style headline. We’re led to believe that conspiracy theorists are somehow disrupting or clogging Emergency Rooms at hospitals. The trouble is, if you read the story, there’s absolutely NOTHING about that happening. The headline is a complete LIE.

If you read the story carefully, what you’ll find is that the first portion of it actually details the stories of a couple of doctors trying to reason with conspiracy theorists on social media, presumably on their off time. If they’re social network debating at work, as paragraph four suggests, you have wonder why they are doing so instead of helping patients.

The Lead In Picture:

Here’s another game of deception. If you don’t look closely at the small print description beneath the photo (in the story), you would assume that the protest being pictured is in front of a HOSPITAL. That’s what the headline said, right? Well, the picture is actually taken in front of the Connecticut governor’s house.

The paragraphs that follow are designed to subtly give the reader the impression that it IS in front of a hopsital though. Not only that, but the sign in the picture saying “Fake Crisis” is also used by the story to tie anyone disagreeing with lockdowns to conspiracy theories.

How do I reach that conclusion? First hand experience with the media during the Atlanta Olympic Games. Note the sign says. “Fake CRISIS”, NOT fake disease. That person may very well feel that the disease is real, but not quite as dangerous as it’s made out to be. I can certainly argue that point statistically myself. They likely also simply want to return to work. At NO point does the story interview this person to find out what they believe or want. We’re simply left with the implied assertion that they’re a rabid conspiracy nut.

Note the flag on the car participating in the drive-by portion of the protest too. This was included in the shot to connect patriotism to deranged thinking also.

CONTINUING THE STORY…

We read how painful this social media interaction is for these doctors. At NO point does anybody bring up the the nearly thirty year old maxim for avoiding this kind of crap. “DON’T FEED THE TROLLS”! If you don’t want the drama, walk away! Nobody is forcing these poor abused doctors to get into pissing contests with these trolls.

THEN we suddenly make the leap to other doctors sharing “similar” experiences of treating patients with COVID-19. The story cites ONE specific case of an idiot ending up in the ER after drinking bleach. The article doesn’t even specifically say it was in an effort to prevent or treat COVID-19, nor does it quote the patient as saying that was the reason, just that he did it.

The story THEN points out that this happened just DAYS after President Trump suggested injecting disinfectants to kill the disease. The story completely fails to mention that Trump was being sarcastic and trolling the media.

THAT said, I will admit that was another classic Trump foot in mouth moment. He should have realized that:

1) the media would run with it regardless.

2) There’s always some idiot that will do any stupid thing a politician suggests. Remember the guy who was arrested for shooting a shotgun into the air after Vice President Biden suggested that was all that was needed to chase off burglars?

We have to get our Trump bashing in the story somehow though, right? Speaking of which, the second picture is a perfect example of stereotyping Trump and anyone who supports him. As with the first picture, there was no attempt at objective journalism and asking the man pictured what his exact beliefs were, nor did they really show anyone else at the Reopen Oregon Rally.

The picture was about taking Trump supporters and people who want to return to work, and connecting them to conspiracy theories and deranged thinking. The media used to do the same thing with the TEA party also. Taxed Enough Already is what it stood for. All most members wanted was better accounting of government spending and reduction of waste.

Getting back to the story, the next paragraph goes:

“Folks delaying seeking care or, taking the most extreme case, somebody drinking bleach as a result of structural factors just underlines the fact that we have not protected the public from disinformation,” Maru said.

Yet there’s no specific cases mentioned, even in the case of the bleach drinker, where this DID happen. At best, it’s elementary school level sloppy writing. At worst, it’s complete BS. No doubt there are cases where this has happened, but the story doesn’t even come close to providing proof that it’s serious to the point of breaking ERs.

They don’t even let the doctor define “structural factors”. Note any time you see vague euphemisms like this, it’s because the speaker or author is trying to dance around exact wording to make a case that couldn’t otherwise be made. The NBC reporter DOES go on to define “structural factors” on their own as Social Media and YouTube.

The Remainder of the Story:

What follows is several more paragraphs highlighting some of the most outrageous conspiracy theories out there, rationalizing why people need to censored for the public good. We get precious little facts, just innuendo that anything disagreeing with the official line is bad. That includes emotional manipulation like this:

“It scares me more than anything that there are people who are basically controlled — and in the same way they feel they’re fighting against that control,” he said. “They go to YouTube, where they’re really being controlled, and they don’t realize it. That’s what’s scary.”

What you get from the remainder is a ton of rationalization for MORE censorship when social media and YouTube are already banning anything that even remotely disagrees with the WHO and it’s Chinese masters. The twitter video I had posted in a previous post that showed the WHO official hanging up on a reporter after being told that Taiwan was not China being a perfect example. It’s GONE now.

How was THAT any threat to anyone’s health at all? All it did was call attention to a corrupt bureaucrat whose loyalty laid more with China than his agency’s stated goals.

The Bill Gates conspiracy theory never explains why Gates & friends would patent an earlier version of the Coronavirus either. No, I don’t believe it was to make COVID-19. However, patenting a disease is sick first of all. Secondly, it blocks anybody else from researching it or engineering a cure or vaccine based on the disease’s genetic structure.

That’s a far cry from trying to kill off people with a new virus, but it is filthy greed and capitalism at it’s absolute worst.

Likewise, the Wuhan lab thing is quickly discounted as a wild hoax. Understandable right? China hasn’t lied to us about anything COVID-19, such as it not being able to affect anyone under 20, right? The lab may not be a weapons lab, but it’s a lab. If it doesn’t exist, as NBC claims, how do we explain these stories:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/04/14/state-department-cables-warned-safety-issues-wuhan-lab-studying-bat-coronaviruses/

https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/06/asia/coronavirus-china-wuhan-lab-origins-explainer-intl-hnk/index.html

https://www.thedailybeast.com/leaked-cable-shows-us-officials-flagged-safety-issues-at-wuhan-lab-years-ago

Those from The Washington Post, CNN and the Daily Beast. None of whom are friendly to Trump. The lab story is all a hoax though.

Ironically, the story ends with one of the doctors swearing off social media, after two separate yet completely unsubstantiated claims of organized harassment of doctors. What it does mention is that the doctor was greeted by New York City’s nightly banging of pots and pans and other noise making as a salute to health care workers as the interview was wrapping up. Some attack on doctors, huh?

What’s Missing:

What wasn’t said in the story? Aside from any real evidence for the claim in the headline…

  1. That we have civil liberties in this country that are supposed to protect freedom of speech
  2. That there are already multiple variations on fraud laws for people touting fake cures for anything.
  3. That there’s any difference between people wanting to return to work and conspiracy theorists.
  4. That just because the WHO and China calls something a lie does NOT mean it’s so.
  5. That dissent and peaceful disagreement are SUPPOSED to be the hallmarks of a free society and healthy democracy
  6. That conspiracy theories arise because people instinctively know when they’re being bullshitted by their so-called leaders.
  7. Any sort of objective look at such a dissenting opinion.
  8. Some small percentage of idiots will believe anything no matter how much you try to convince them otherwise or limit their access to information. Limiting that access only proves them right in their minds.

In short, it’s largely just an effort to discredit the alternative media, and tie conservatives to whackadoo ideas. Journalism is supposed to be reporting facts documented with supporting evidence, NOT emotion based manipulation.

CONCLUSION:

So there you have it. Some of the manipulation is pretty subtle, like the messages NBC was trying to send with the two pictures included in the story. Some of it was as subtle as a freight train, like the story’s efforts to tie Trump to the conspiracy theorists.

Regardless there was nothing truly supporting the claim made in the headline. Just enough implied superficial connections to get somebody skimming the article to go blindly along with it.

If you really want to break free, you have to read in depth and analyze what’s both implied and outright said. Skimming is shutting down your brain and letting somebody else do the thinking for you. You’ll always be led around by the nose that way.

Mis-Reporting Runs Amok Regarding the South

I’ve been disgusted by the news lately. Not only in how it’s blindly towing the big government fascism line regarding the coronavirus, but also how it’s targeted the South in particular. We’ve been the first to start to open back up and the bias in utterly astounding. Everything from the Texas salon owner to Georgia’s re-opening.

Re-Opening:

I’ve been seeing various “media” outlets hurl every insult our way imaginable. Everything from scathing commentary to rigged news stories about how Georgia is suffering MASSIVE coronavirus case rebound. It’s all been characterized as a a selfish money grab that’s costing lives.

Lies from people with guaranteed incomes who only care about creating a police state.

The truth: Openings have been fairly gradual, based on people and businesses displaying common sense with social distancing. Some stores and restaurants are still only open to curbside pickup. Some places are still closed, period. Where places have opened, social distancing guidelines are being followed closely. Here’s an example:

Blaze Pizza here in town. Note most folks are still taking out. That table with the painter’s tape X across it though… off limits. Tables were selectively closed so that the dining room occupancy was limited and everyone sat at .least six feet apart from other groups.

COMMON DAMNED SENSE, and without a government mandate. Imagine that!

Maybe “dumb rednecks” are a good bit smarter than the people involved in protests and other large gatherings in New York City, hmm?

I don’t even know who to believe on death totals anymore. Some places are saying 67,000 US deaths, some are saying 70,000 and I’ve seen totals as high as 77,000. What I can say is I haven’t seen any reports on the news of people being to hospitals in record numbers as we re-open. Nope, all is quiet on the Southern front.

The varying death totals are another example of manipulation however. How can we trust any news / government source if they’re going to arbitrarily put out random numbers or pad them with deaths that may have nothing to do with COVID-19?

Yeah, I know… Trust the WHO, right?

That’s the same organization that tells us the virus was nothing in China and is already gone there, BUT is still out of control here and the biggest threat ever to humanity. Never mind their own stats say there are other things that kill vastly more people:

I’ve put that graph up before. 9 million deaths a year from heart disease. Nearly 6 million from stroke. Nearly 3 million from COPD, etc… all the way down to Tuberculosis rounding out the top 10 with 1.6 million deaths per year.

Any way you slice it, the densely populated Northeastern states still have it worse than the South.

Texas Salon Owners Getting Jailed:

Dallas hair salon owner Shelley Luther has been the one getting most of the attention here. The way the mainstream media has portrayed her, you’d think her name was actually Lex Luthor.

Almost half a dozen other salon owners have been dealing with unjust imprisonment also however. Governor Greg Abbott finally had to amend his lockdown order and release the jailed women however. Not before the Lieutenant Governor paid Shelley Luther’s fines and got her released, the Texas attorney general called the governor out of control and said the jailings were political stunts, AND the Texas Supreme Court ruled the governor’s order unconstitutional.

Greg Abbott is NO Texan. REAL Texans value both freedom and personal responsibility.

The accounts I heard from more conservative sources say these women each had only 1 to 4 people in their salon at a time (depending upon the salon owner), and were wearing masks. Contrary to the governor’s fascistic statements, all they wanted was to be able to put food on the table for their children.

Personally, I hope Abbott is impeached and removed from office.

Stupid Story of the Day:

I was hoping to stay away from politics and the virus today, but… ABC just had to work my last good nerve.

HEADLINE: Health care workers fear losing their jobs during coronavirus pandemic.

We’re expected to believe that during a global pandemic of “epic proportions”, that small and rural hospitals are laying 43,000 people off in order to focus exclusively on emergency room treatment of patients, per the story.

“This may seem counterintuitive as we read daily of health care providers caring for COVID-19 patients stretched to capacity, but other types of health services have been shutting down like the rest of the service economy. This month’s losses were concentrated in ambulatory care settings, including physician offices, dental offices, and offices of other practitioners. As non-essential visits were cancelled, and states began ordering social distancing, such offices were closed. Even telemedicine visits, directly linking providers to patients, reduce the use of support staff.”

Here’s why I’m calling BS:

1) Rural areas, despite all the false stories of them struggling to cope, have seen minimal intrusion by the coronavirus. Everywhere you look, it’s URBAN areas with dense concentrations of people that are getting hit the hardest. New York City being the poster child there; high population, EXTREMELY crowded and it’s an international city. Placerville CA, by contrast (with a population of roughly 11,000) hasn’t seen a single case at all.

2) “Ambulatory Care” is walk-in type services. Nothing in that definition implies non-essential. Dentists are walk-in and while many are putting routine teeth cleaning visits on hold, they’re certainly still seeing people for impacted wisdom teeth, chipped or knocked out teeth, cavities, etc… Same is true with all other non-ER medical treatment. It’s only the completely routine and preventative stuff that’s being delayed.

3) Any place where the coronavirus IS an issue, personnel are getting shuffled around to other departments to help deal with it. Doing something to care for patients, (with the virus or otherwise), in some way. Even if it’s just running supplies and records back and forth.

4) It flies completely in face of the constant barrage of stories about there not being enough health care workers to deal with this “crisis”.

5) Why is this supposedly only happening in small and rural hospitals, not urban ones? Again, this sounds simply like bias against the deplorable, smelly Walmart shoppers who vote conservative.

You just don’t furlough health care workers in the middle of a pandemic UNLESS they’re in a completely non-helpful role, such as the gift shop AND / OR they are NOT willing to come in and help for fear of the virus. That IS happening with a few health care workers too. One of my fellow bloggies here was forced to make that decision and opted to stay home. I can’t judge her either because I don’t have a small child to think about as a factor to such a decision. She does.

WHAT’S NOT SAID IN THE STORY:

Even if we assume this story IS true at all, let’s consider a couple of key facts that were left out. Can’t put in important details if you’re trying to create blind panic for ratings, right?

1) What jobs these people have. I’d seriously bet that none of the furloughed people are actually doctors, or nurses. Hell, even janitors are needed to clean and sterilize areas.

2) How many of these “lost jobs” are people that were just too afraid to come to work thanks to the media-created hysteria. There’s a HUGE difference between that and a hospital saying “we just don’t need you now”. As a side note, I’d imagine a few of them are even normal retirements.

3) That, per the CDC, there are a total of 18,000,000 (18 million) health care workers in the United States. Now, for those who aren’t willing to do the math themselves, that means that the 43,000 “lost” jobs, if they’re real at all, amount to .24% (a hair less than one quarter of one percent OR 1 in 400) of the total heath care workforce.

Is ANYBODY out there starting to see just how far the Media will go to exploit a crisis and outright hurt people for the sake of ratings?

Let the flogging begin!

By the way… ABC’s parent company is Disney. THIS kind of manipulative, shoddy reporting is what your money spent on Disney stuff goes to support.

The White House Briefing Yesterday…

I listened to the briefing on the radio yesterday. It was quite an experience to say the least. Trump, who I frequently deride for his arrogant, condescending demeanor and poor wording of even the best meaning ideas, was somber and even toned. It seems he’s now paying attention to the predictions from the more pessimistic people on his advisory team.

He also did point out that we are seeing indications that the measures we are taking are indeed slowing down the virus some. We may also be looking at up to 250,000 dead here before this is all said and done. Worst case? Overly pessimistic? I’d like to think so, but it is hard to say for sure.

One thing I *DO* know for sure: With the release of the test kits that only take 15 minutes and a swab of the mouth, MANY more cases are going to be diagnosed. Some people will freak out over that rise in numbers also. Remember, the vast majority of people that get COVID-19 barely show any symptoms. If you want to look at ANY number related to this pandemic, look at the total number hospitalized. THAT will tell you how many serious cases are out there and how close any country is to having it’s health care system overwhelmed.

Remember also that testing and getting a handle on how many true carriers there are out there will help with better containment, give officials better data on how and where it’s spreading, AND allow for earlier treatment of people at risk, thus saving lives.

Getting back to the press conference and it’s fallout… Trump was overall much more congenial than usual with the media in general and a few political rivals. He had good things to say about California Governor Gavin Newsom, and thanked the media for generally being fair.

MEDIA BIAS & HATE:

Sadly a few reporters couldn’t resist attempts at gotcha questions. THAT is what’s getting all the attention on social media. A few also couldn’t resist the urge to mock the people that Trump had brought together from corporate America to help fight the virus.

Mike Lindell, CEO of “My Pillow” was singled out by Ali Velshi from MSNBC for example. What this hack commentator completely ignored is that the man voluntarily shut down his business and now has it making 10,000 masks a day to help protect people. He’s doing so at cost too! That total is also his starting totals as his company gets ramped up.

Likewise, Telecom company executives were there to talk about what they’re doing to keep phone and internet service up in a time of unprecedented demand. I know I’m dealing with slowdowns now.

Likewise, GM & Ford are stepping up to make ventilators and repair all the defective ones that were made in China and rotting in storage. 30% of the ones we’ve received from China in recent years have turned out to be defective and inoperative.

Most of the media, even most of MSNBC has been a good deal more even handed than this twit. Some of the response has really been sick and pathetic though. These folks need to go to the front of the line in my “I Want People Flogged” post yesterday.

We’re in the middle of a serious pandemic here. What will absolutely make the biggest difference is how people come together to combat it. If we all do as we’ve been asked, stick together, etc… this will probably end up looking like no more than a very bad flu season or the H1N1 epidemic of 2010.

All this divisive BS is only going to cause people to ignore guidelines, act up and prolong the virus. Never mind all the potential secondary fallout like it contributing to the hording and leading to civil unrest. It’s fine to say “I think this would work better instead”. No leader should be above reproach. In a time of crisis, there’s a constructive, CIVILIZED and intelligent way to do it though.

BE AFRAID OF THE SEVERE CRITICS:

I hope my readers are paying attention to the underlying messages from the critics out there. Not just critics of the US President, but other various leaders as well. Many of these people seem to be operating from a delusional state that a leader should be able to snap their fingers and instantly cure things. “The ONLY reason people are dying is because the Prime Minister or President wants them to”.

That kind of thinking is not only delusional, it’s infantile. It shows a level of grasp on reality equal to a 2 year old who has never had mommy and daddy say ‘No’ to them. No political leader has godlike powers (Thank God).

Almost as bad are the idiots that mock private business rising up to help with the situation. They want leaders to just mandate steps and it’s magically going to happen immediately. Essentially what they’re wanting… outright expecting is a government with complete dictatorial powers, and a willingness to use them freely. That kind of thinking should literally scare the shit out of anyone with common sense. To paraphrase an oft heard expression; “A government big enough and willing to give you anything instantly with the snap of it’s fingers, is big enough and more than willing to take away EVERYTHING with another snap”.

SHOW UNDERSTANDING AND COMPASSION:

Aside from opening your eyes to the hate out there, I have one other message:

Fight the bad examples with a good one of your own. Rise up and join the people clapping for health care workers. Do what you can to support others. Set aside the stupid and often false political divides. If you can volunteer to help somehow, do so. A good example out here is a group called Project Linus (named after the character from Peanuts). They sew together blankets and quilts, and provide them to various homeless groups and low income families. Many of them are now sewing cloth masks instead to help people. Everywhere you look, people are rising to the occasion in some way.

That includes businesses also. Everything from big companies like Ford, GM and My Pillow to local dry cleaners doing free cleaning for health care workers and first responders.

Be part of the solution, not the problem. Be the light you wish to see in others.
